Painters in the United States are often overlooked and underappreciated for their hard work. Their self-expression in their painting often tells a story about their immigrant experience, or feelings of what cultural challenges immigrants face.

The artists who created the works pictured below were not born in the United States, yet established their fame and fostered their talents in America. Identify these artists, giving their name and their country of birth. Also identify the form or style of painting they are known for (such as realism, impressionism, abstract expressionism, etc.)

So far, there has been no winner for this month’s immigration quiz, so we are going to give you a few hints:

1) One painting is titled “High Noon, New York, 1986”
2) One work of art is titled “Bicycle Wheel”
3) One artist stated that “color is merely an instrument”
4) One artist portrays paintings of farm workers as those who are worthy of respect, and who do their jobs with dignity and pride
5) One painting is titled “Woman 1”
6) Another painting is titled “Music and Literature”

Good Luck!
